Los Niños
New York, NY
The Challenge
When Scott Mesh, CEO of the New York City-based Los Niños started waking up some mornings, not looking forward to going into work, he knew something had to change. The organization, a multilingual agency serving the developmental needs of young children and their families, was receiving prestigious awards and statewide recognition. But the company's revenues weren't strong. In fact, for a few years there, they had actually been flat. Considering that Los Niños is a for-profit company that provides non-profit-type services, the constant struggle to sustain and grow operational revenue was exhausting. Consequently, company morale was suffering, too.
Mesh, an avid disciple of several famous management programs and philosophies, had attempted and somewhat successfully incorporated some signature business principles into the Los Niños environment. But these efforts weren't going to be enough, particularly if Los Niños wanted to achieve growth and much-needed profitability.
The Solution
After hearing a MAP presentation at an Entrepreneurs' Organization event, Mesh appreciated the solid system offered by the 49-year-old business management company. But two of MAP's clients, who had flown in on their own dime for the meeting, told success stories about MAP's unique impact. These personal accounts really impressed Mesh, so over the course of a year, he worked at convincing Edita Diaz, his business partner, to hire MAP to help Los Niños. She eventually consented, and MAP assigned one of its top consultants to launch the MAP management system.
At first, Los Niños experienced some serious growing pains - the initial meetings were super tough because conflicts, problems and tensions were brought into light. But MAP quickly guided Los Niños to a place of consensus, and everyone began to set and achieve goals developed around MAP's signature Vital Factors, a way to measure a company's, as well as an employee's, professional health and productivity. MAP set up monthly Vital Factor meetings for Los Niños, in which every employee was held accountable for his or her productivity. MAP's attention toward results - not reasons or excuses - put the focus on "getting things done," a key differentiator between this program and other business management solutions.
The Results
Los Niños started working with MAP in 2008 and so is a relatively new client. But in eight months' time, the organization has experienced a record 20 percent revenue growth. In addition, Los Niños has increased personnel by 15 percent, something not every company can brag about in tough economic times nor within a short, eight-month time period. The increased staffing was necessary after Los Niños' referrals rose by roughly 30 percent. The rise in revenue soon followed. Finally, company morale is at an all-time high. According to Mesh, people are smiling, enthusiastic and excited to be part of this company. When Mesh wakes up in the mornings, he is now thrilled about heading into work. To him, this feeling, in addition to an overall decrease in stress, is proof of the positive personal outcomes that really can evolve through the MAP management system.
