I attended a MAP training course in February of 2004 at a time when I was seriously considering closing our business. After much thought processing the information I learned at that class, I decided to make one more push for success and implemented some very risky changes and additions to our management and field staff. I changed the focus of our organization to capitalize on these personnel changes.
I sent the new team members through the training and we started running VFT meetings halfway through that year. With only six months of MAP under our belt, sales increased 125% that first year, which has continued as we have seen our sales increase 500% over the last four years. We were recognized as the fastest growing electrical contractor in the U.S. in the August 2007 issue of Entrepreneur Magazine and made the INC. 5000 list in September as the 757th fastest growing company of any kind in the U.S. None of this would have been possible without the benefit of having the MAP system of management in place.
The process not only had a magnificent effect on sales, but also on many other aspects of our business. The entire staff sits together once a month to review all the measurements that impact our business, which has made this fantastic growth very manageable. Our monthly variance in sales and costs from our projections is very minimal. This has allowed us to plan and manage this growth in a very stable and deliberate manner, increasing our productivity and quality to the point that our net profits have increase 6,900% over the same time period.
My only regret is not starting MAP sooner. I am truly grateful for the significant role MAP has played in our success and I look forward to many more years working together.
